PAMELA ZULLI

Pamela Zulli trained as a stone sculptor at the University of Maryland and continued her marble studies in Florence, Italy for two years. After her stay in Italy, she lived in Paris, France for two years and during that stay began her exploration of color on shaped canvases, often constructed from used Metro posters.

Her work has been primarily influenced by the work of Frank Stella, Martin Puryear, Jennie Lee Holzer and the Washington Color School. Pamela has continued to develop her unique style and approach in Montreal, Canada and upon her return to Washington, DC in 2000.

Pamela’s paintings have been exhibited in Washington, DC, Chicago, IL, Memphis, TN, Montreal, Canada, Paris, France, Florence, Italy and Ferrara, Italy.

During the 1980’s Pamela became involved in the performance art movement and began integrating sound and public participation in her installations.  One of her site-specific installations, a 3-dimentional interactive plexiglass enclosed structure was displayed in Ferrara, Italy.  She has also been recognized for her set designs, which were created for several theater companies in the Washington, DC area.
